Ask how often a laundry should be cleaned and the honest answer is that there is no single figure. Different parts of the room run on entirely different clocks. Some of it happens between every load, some through the day, and some only a few times a year. Here is what a well run place actually does.

The four clocks a laundry runs on
It helps to stop thinking of cleaning as one job done at one time.
There is work that happens between loads, work that happens every couple of hours, work that happens once a day, and work that happens on a much longer cycle.
Each one covers a different failure. Between loads covers transfer from one customer to the next. Hourly covers the floor and the tables. Daily covers the parts that accumulate slowly.
The long cycle covers the things you cannot see at all, which is why it is the part most often skipped.
A room where only the visible clocks are being kept looks fine for about six months and then starts to underperform in ways nobody can quite trace.
How often a laundry should touch the washers
Between every load, and the job is small.
Open the door, look into the drum, and take out whatever was left behind. Socks, tissue, coins and pen lids all turn up.
Wipe around the fold of the door seal, since that is where water, lint and grit sit after a cycle.
Leave the door standing open so the drum and the seal dry out instead of staying shut and damp.
That sequence takes under a minute per washer and it is the single highest value habit in the building, because it is what stops one load leaving anything for the next.
In practice this is shared work. Staff do it on a circuit, and customers do it for the machine they have just used.
Lint screens belong to every single load
A dryer screen is a between loads job with no flexibility in it at all.
Lint builds in a single cycle, and a partly covered screen restricts the airflow that the whole drying process depends on.
The load then takes longer, runs hotter, and comes out with more creasing for the same money.
Pull the screen, take the sheet of lint off it, and look through it against the light before you push it back.
A screen that looks clear but feels slightly waxy has a film on it from dryer sheets, and that needs washing under a tap and drying fully a few times a year.
Behind the screen sits the duct, which is a different job on a much longer clock and belongs to whoever maintains the building.
Floors and tables run on hours
These are the parts customers judge a place by, and they change fastest.
Floors need a sweep or a dry mop through the day rather than once at closing, because lint migrates, settles along the base of the machines, and drifts under them.
Spills get dealt with when they happen. Detergent left on a floor dries to a film that lifts again the moment it gets wet.
Folding tables want wiping whenever they are clear, which in a busy room means several times across an afternoon.
Bins get emptied before they are full rather than after, since an overflowing bin puts lint and packaging back onto the floor.
Glass on the doors and the machine fronts is cosmetic and still matters, because it is what tells a customer that somebody walked the room recently.
The daily pass
Once a day, somebody should work through the parts that build up quietly.
Drums wiped out properly rather than glanced into, including the back wall of the drum where residue sits.
Door seals opened out fully and cleared of grit, hair and standing water.
Dispensers pulled and flushed, because that is where powder cakes and softener sets into gel.
Filter traps at the base of the washers opened and emptied. On a busy day the amount that comes out of one is genuinely surprising.
Machine tops, cart frames and the tops of the folding tables wiped down and dried.
Floors mopped properly after the last busy stretch and given time to dry before the room is closed up.
The weekly and monthly work
This is where the difference between a maintained room and a merely tidy one shows up.
Washers get a hot maintenance cycle run empty, which clears the film that daily wiping cannot reach on the far side of the drum.
Where the water is hard, that cycle includes something acidic to take scale off the heating element and the drum wall.
Carts and baskets get taken out of rotation and washed down properly rather than wiped in passing.
Vents and dryer cabinets get opened and cleared of the lint that gets past every screen ever made.
Light fittings, corners, skirting and the tops of the machines that nobody looks at get done on a rotation, so each one comes round regularly rather than never.
How often a laundry should look at the machinery itself
A few times a year, and this part is nearly always invisible to customers.
Levels checked, because feet work loose and an unlevel washer spins short and wears its own bearings.
Inlet valve filters cleared, since mineral rich water blocks them slowly and a slow fill looks like a slow machine.
Drain lines checked for the sludge of lint and detergent that builds where the pipe changes direction.
Dryer ducting cleared along its full run rather than at the visible end, since a partly blocked duct is the reason a dryer that used to take forty minutes now takes seventy.
Belts, seals and bearings inspected by somebody who knows what a worn one sounds like.
What you can tell as a customer
You cannot audit a maintenance schedule from the doorway, but you can read the outputs of one.
Doors standing open on idle washers means the between loads routine is being kept.
Clear lint screens on the dryers nearest the door, since those are the ones that get used most and neglected first.
Floors with no lint drift along the base of the machines, and tables with nothing on them.
Dryers that finish a normal load in a normal time, which is the clearest evidence that the long clock is being kept as well as the short ones.
The Denver part
Local conditions push on the schedule in three specific places, and hard water is the first. Mineral rich supply leaves scale on heating elements, drum walls and inlet filters, which means the descaling part of the monthly work is not optional here in the way it might be in a soft water city. Skip it for a year and machines fill slower and heat less efficiently.
Dry air at elevation is the second. Low humidity keeps fine dust and loose fibre airborne rather than settling and staying settled, so flat surfaces need more passes through the day than they would somewhere damp. It also means static, and static holds lint against vertical surfaces where a broom never reaches.
Winter changes the loads rather than the room. Heavy bedding, coats, fleece and blankets all shed far more fibre than a summer load of shirts, so lint volume climbs through the cold months. Screens, traps and ducting all need attention more often in January than in July, which is the opposite of what most schedules assume.
The long heating season adds one more thing. Months of forced air heat dry a building out and move dust around it continuously, so the deeper rotation work of corners, fittings and the tops of the machines matters more here than the amount of visible mess would suggest.
Where the schedule is actually kept
The clocks that matter most are the ones a customer never sees.
